My daughter just recently memorized my cell phone number so if she can call me if there is ever an emergency. This led to numerous calls to my cell phone while I was at work. Shaun has since talked to her about not calling mommy all day at work, but for a couple days I was getting at least 2 or 3 messages on my phone which consisted of lots of background noise and my daughter's voice informing someone that she was calling her mommy.
One day I left work at lunch and noticed I had two messages. Both were from her. I called her back to see what was going on. As soon as she realized it was me, her tone changed. I could tell her feelings were hurt and she was ready to cry.
Tyler: Mommy, why did you tell me earlier that you were too busy to talk to me and you would call me back later?
Me: What do you mean? We haven't talked today, honey.
Tyler: When I called earlier you did not listen to me. You just said you couldn't talk and would call me back later.
I can tell at this point that she is very close to tears. All of a sudden I realize that when she had called earlier and got my voice-mail, she had thought she was actually talking to me!
It took a few minutes to explain to her that the voice she heard was a recording and not really mommy. Then it took a few more minutes to explain to her how she could leave a message for mommy. I think she has the recording from me figured out but I still get the message with all the background noise and her talking to someone else saying she is trying to call her mommy.
